WHITE CENTER, Wash. – A clerk at a White Center tobacco shop was arrested and the store could now lose its license after an undercover officer bought illegal marijuana there, officials said.
Brian Smith, spokesman for the state Liquor and Cannabis Board, said the officer purchased the illegal pot Tuesday at The Smoke Shop, a state-licensed tobacco and vapor products retailer at 9823 16th Ave. SW in White Center. Under state law, marijuana may only be sold from a licensed marijuana retail store.
The undercover officer paid $50 for nine grams of marijuana bud, Smith said.
Police executed a search warrant at the shop on Wednesday and found more than 13 pounds of marijuana flower, concentrates and pre-rolled joints, Smith said. The retail value of the illegal product was estimated at over $50,000.
The pot, a 12-gauge shotgun and about $2,700 in cash were seized as evidence. The shotgun was located in a backroom safe with the marijuana and cash.
Officers also located a 19-year-old minor who had purchased marijuana from the store, Smith said.
The clerk was arrested by Cannabis Board officers and booked into the King County jail for investigation of unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance.
The state Liquor and Cannabis Board will also issue a violation to The Smoke Shop that could lead to revocation of the store’s licenses to sell tobacco and vapor product, according to Smith.
